Abbey Communtiy Centre in the heart of Kilburn, provides a wide range of services and activities for the local community.
VAC has twice facilitated their annual Away Day to help them update their strategic plan. Lindsay Richardson, Centre director, talks about how this support has made an impact on their organisation.
“We have an annual session every year where the board meets to review our business plan and update aspects of it, like the risk assessment / skills audit, depending on what the priority is at that time.
VAC has facilitated that for us twice, so trying to get the information from the board in terms of what we want to do, how we deal with anything we want to change, updating our mission statement etc. This was particularly useful for the board because of VAC’s knowledge of Camden and the current environment. It provides a bigger picture of Camden. The impact of the board review day is for us is we update our business plan and it makes us think about things we need to think about, what it is we want to do. I think one of the biggest impacts for the board was that they got a lot more knowledge about the Camden situation generally, the economic climate, the financial climate, the funding climate, relationships and organisations within Camden. I think it definitely improved their knowledge of that, which helped them to make decisions more efficiently about our organisation and how it fits within that environment.”
