Euston Area Environmental Justice Inquiry – Impacts of Somers Town Community Investment Programme 20th Sep 6:00pm

Wednesday, September 20 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Euston Area Environmental Justice Inquiry

An inquiry into how building development is affecting the wellbeing of local people

Local residents and community groups are invited to complete  Witness Statements for three evening events on September 20th, 27th and October 4th 2017. The statement questionnaire asks about living with the impacts of CTRL (Channel Tunnel Rail Link) at St Pancras, the Community Investment Programme (CIP) in central Somers Town, and HS2 at Euston. Development that has already happened (CTRL), and others that are just starting and will continue for many more years (CIP and HS2).

David Hart QC, Chair of the Environmental Law Foundation, will chair the 3 events. The Witness Statements on health and wellbeing will be examined alongside responses submitted by residents to planning consultations, comments on planning applications, community led alternative proposals, and environmental, health and air quality studies.

The analysis of the all the above will be collated as Community Evidence and presented to candidates in the lead up to local council elections in May 2018.

The Community Evidence can be used to develop community projects and initiatives that help to alleviate the impacts of construction and new development. Suggestions so far include having clear Access to Natural Green Space Standards (ANGst), planting more trees, demanding rigorous health and environmental impact assessments in neighbourhoods with poor air quality, and influencing planning gains through Section 106 and Community Infrastructure Levy.

HOSTED BY: Somers Town Neighbourhood Forum, Voluntary Action Camden, University College London and Environmental Law Foundation.
