The Stowe Centre, 258 Harrow Road, London, W2 5ES
London is undoubtedly a great success; a growing, dynamic and diverse world city. We want to hear your views about what we need to do to make London a fairer city, particularly with regards to older adults.
The meeting will be run using a process called ‘Open Space’, allowing everyone at the meeting to raise the issues that matter to them, share and develop ideas and consider recommendations for the future. It will be participative, energetic and focused.
This meeting will support older Londoners as well as their groups and organisations to influence the London Fairness Commission’s recommendations, which will be published in April.

Court finds Benefits Cap unlawfully discriminates against disabled people’s carers
The High Court has ruled that the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions has unjustifiably indirectly discriminated against unpaid carers for disabled family members by failing to exempt them from the Benefits Cap. The Court upheld the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s submission that the rights of carers under Article 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights had been contravened by a failure to consider the impact on disabled people. Solve waste problems through crowdfunding
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s new campaign Waste Not UK (recently aired on the BBC) has set out to discover why we produce so much waste across the UK. A third of food in the UK never gets eaten, yet 13 million people in this country are struggling to afford to eat. Evidently something needs to be done about it!
Our friends down at Crowdfunder have teamed up with Hugh to support innovative projects to actively solve waste problems. If you have a waste project that you wish to get off the ground, why not start crowdfunding it today?
Or, if you want to show your support for other waste tackling groups, check out the campaign page.

Socially Responsible Recruiting
A new, award-winning skills matching service that connects employers with skilled and experienced people to do one-off or part-time jobs has launched in Camden, with a strong social benefit ethic.
“There is a very large number of people in Camden who are fantastically skilled and work-ready but are off the radar to employers because they’re not looking for full-time work and aren’t constantly scouring the job ads,” says Jonathan Collie, founder of Trading Times.
These people are highly skilled over 50s, and family carers. Trading Times brings them to you. It’s free to candidates. It costs you only £35, and only when you are connected to the perfect candidates.
Paul Fordham of Abbey Community Centre in Camden said: “”We posted our occasional job opportunity on Trading Times because we at the Abbey Community Centre recognise the value of the flexibility that can come with age. Trading Times offers a tailored means to directly target opportunities at an older group that the vast majority of other job sites simply do not seem to tap.”
Register at https://tradingtimes.org.uk/ and let Trading Times match you with the right local people for your needs.
