In March Peter attended “New Models of Care: Working Together for a Healthy London” an event organised by the London Voluntary Service Council. The title refers to the government’s “Five Year Forward View” of the NHS which argued for a “more engaged relationship with patients, carers and citizens so that we can promote wellbeing and prevent ill-health.” The voluntary and community sector is very much at the core of this and the document specifically referred to Voluntary Action Rotherham’s Social Prescribing Service.

Long Term Conditions Focus Groups
Get involved in developing a new service to provide support and information to people affected by a long-term conditions (patients and carers), who are having their care provided by the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust.
We are running two focus groups, to gain your opinions and ideas of what sort of service you might find useful, and we would appreciate as many people attending as possible. There will be refreshments provided and transports costs can be reimbursed.
At the focus groups you will be asked to complete a questionnaire (there will be assistance with this if needed) and/or ask for your comments in small groups.

Views of BME Young People in the Mayoral Elections
In May 2016, Londoners will elect a new Mayor for their city. The Coalition of Race Equality Organisations (CORE) wants to make sure the views of young people – aged 16-30 – from London’s minority ethnic communities are heard. For that, we have launched a new initiative called All London Voices to involve young Londoners like you in the run up to the 2016 London Mayoral elections on May 5th.
We have created a survey as an opportunity for you to share your views as they are important and deserve to be heard. Any answers you give will be completely anonymous so please be open and honest. To make it worthwhile, you get the chance to win £100 in Amazon vouchers. You have until 10th April to respond. We would particularly like to hear from young BAME people.

London Mayoral Elections
The Camden Society are holding information workshops at Holmes Road through April
Every Tuesday from 4pm – 6pm we will be
– discussing and exploring the political views of the mayoral candidates;
– Helping people to register to vote
– Helping people to understand the voting process and what to do / where to go on polling day
– And organising buddies of support to go to their local polling station on the day

Integrated Urgent Care NHS 111 and GP out of hours service
The contract to provide the Integrated Urgent Care NHS 111 and GP out of hours service to residents across North Central London has been awarded to London Central and West Unscheduled Care Collaborative (LCW). The five year contract will commence from 1 October 2016.
The procurement for the integrated service was undertaken by NHS Enfield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) along with Barnet, Camden, Haringey and Islington CCGs.

Grand Challenges 2016-17 Small Grants: £4000 available
Up to £4,000 available for a wide range of societally relevant cross-disciplinary activities undertaken from 1 August 2016 to 31 July 2017
Applications must be led by UCL academic staff (postdoctoral level/equivalent or above or those with an honorary appointment), employed/based in different departments or, ideally, different faculties
External partnerships strengthening the objectives of UCL 2034, enhancing the impact and reputation of UCL, will be of particular interest

BBC Children in Need Grants Programme is Open to Applications
Small grants and Large grants are available to not-for-profit organisations in the UK that are supporting children and young people of 18 years and under who are experiencing disadvantage through:
~ Illness, distress, abuse or neglect.
~ Any kind of disability.
~ Behavioural or psychological difficulties.
~ Living in poverty or situations of deprivation.
Organisations must be working to combat this disadvantage and to make a real difference to children and young people’s lives.
Applications can be made for either of the following:
~ Main Grants of over £10,000 can support projects for up to three years. There is no upper limit but very few grants over £100,000 are made and most grants are for much less.
~ Small Grants of up to £10,000 can support projects for one year.
The grants are to be used for direct project costs that relate clearly and directly to a project. These can include salaries, volunteer expenses, building hire costs and travel costs. In many cases project costs also include less delivery-focused aspects such as line management, administration, insurance and utilities. Match funding is not required.
The deadlines for Small Grant applications are 1 June, 1 September, and 1 December 2016.
The deadlines for Main Grant applications are 15 May and 15 September 2016.

Regent’s Place Community Fund
The Regent’s Place Community Fund is an exciting new initiative led by a number of businesses based at Regent’s Place, a fully managed office, retail and leisure Campus located to the north of the Euston Road in Camden. The founding members of the Fund are occupiers Capital One, Dentsu Aegis Network, Gazprom Marketing & Trading, Lendlease and Santander, along with Regent’s Place Management and landlord British Land.
The Fund aims to make a real difference to the local area and will help smaller community organisations around Regent’s Place. The Fund will focus on causes that support social cohesion in the community, skills and access to employment, and healthy living.
Funding is available to help address local needs under the following themes:
~ Healthy Living (£1,000 – £5,000)
~ Social Cohesion (£1,000 – £5,000)
~ Employability (£5,000 – £10,000)

Santander £2.5million small grants programme
Charities and social enterprises are being encouraged to apply for a share of £2.5m of grant funding that the banking group Santander plans to give this year to local projects working with disadvantaged people.
The bank’s new Discovery Foundation, which launched on 1 March, aims to make grants worth up to £5,000 to “skills, knowledge and innovation” projects in the UK.
Charities, community interest companies and credit unions are eligible to apply for this funding, which is available for one year.
Organisations can nominate themselves by completing a discovery grants nomination form at any branch of Santander and dropping it into the nomination box in the branch. They can also ask Santander customers and staff members to do this on their behalf.
There are no closing dates and grants will be made every month. Successful applicants will be notified by e-mail within a month of submitting a nomination. Story in Money Market UK. Find your nearest branch here.

Greggs Foundation new Environmental Fund which is awarding grants of up to £2,500 and £10,000. The preference is always small, community-based organisations helping people in need.

Small Projects Funding Guide. In 2016, the Trust will invite applications that encourage lasting benefits by bringing people together to improve local ecology and habitats, encourage bio-diversity and benefit the wider environment.

Introducing the Voluntary Sector
Do you feel that you want to learn more about the voluntary sector then this short 8-week course is for you. The course will guide you through some of the distinctive features and values of the voluntary sector, how organisations are funded and involve volunteers and other ‘stakeholders’ in their work. It will also provide you with knowledge and skills you can apply to your own work or volunteering as well as your everyday life. You can progress at your own pace over the 8 weeks; each week will take a minimum of 3 hours of your time.

Moneytalk Camden North – subsidised Financial Education Facilitator Training, 27/28 April or 18 & 25 May
Moneytalk Camden North is a new project based on the award winning financial literacy resource Made of Money, developed by anti-poverty charity Quaker Social Action. It aims to help groups talk about money and its impact on their lives, as well as learn vital money management skills.
Moneytalk Camden North takes a different and innovative approach to financial literacy: it works holistically- with the whole person and the whole household. The resources aim to build confidence, resilience and help people identify their own values, attitudes and emotions around money, as well as covering basics like budgeting, borrowing and debt. We recognise that unless people’s own situations are explored and confidence is increased, behaviour will not change long–term. The resources are all provided, fully reusable, fun and informative- so it hardly feels like you are doing money training. We will train you to use the resources and approach to support your own client groups.

CamdenPAs.org.uk is a new service that makes it easy to find a personal assistant (PA) and puts you in control of your care and support.
If you have care needs, you can employ a PA to help you to live as independently as possible.
CamdenPAs features an online ‘marketplace’ for you to browse through a list of profiles of PAs in the borough. Profiles give details about the services they provide, their skills, experience and personal interests.
You can look through the list to find suitable matches and choose someone you like to help support you.
When you find a match you can contact the PA to arrange an interview and see how you get on. If you like them you can then work out contract details such as hours, duties and wages, and hire them.
If you do not find anyone suitable, you can set up your own a profile describing your requirements and interests, for PAs to look through and contact you.
You can employ a PA whether you receive a direct payment or fund your own care. If you receive direct payments you can get support with the employment from Personalised Support In Camden or AgeUK Camden.

We want to hear your views
Camden and Islington Public Health are holding focus groups in March and early April to hear from residents in Camden and Islington about what they would like from services in London which provide contraception as well as tests and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. This information will be used in deciding how best to deliver these services in the future.
You will not be asked to speak about your own experience of using sexual health services but asked for your thoughts and ideas on the best way to deliver these services. Questions will include:
 What and where are the best places to deliver these services?
 How can we make sure that services are available to the people who want to use them and are easy to use?
We are holding 11 different workshops and you will be able to choose the group that you feel most comfortable with including men and women only groups. We are also particularly interested in hearing from the following groups: young people, gay or homosexual men, people living with HIV and Black Asian Minority Ethnic groups including Bangladeshi women, Latin American women, Black British or
Black Caribbean women and African men and women living with HIV. The focus groups will last up to an hour, and will be held in central venues in Camden and Islington.
Everything that you say will be completely confidential.
You will receive a £20 high street shopping voucher as a thank you for your time.
