Preventing Hate Crime in Camden and Supporting Victims

What is hate crime and why is it a priority?
David Moorhead, Camden Police’s Partnership Superintendent, will explain the legal basis of hate crime and what the Police are doing to tackle it.
Why does hate crime go largely unreported?
Tessa Havers-Strong, from Forum+ will outline their work to encourage greater reporting of trans crime and homophobic crime.
Camden Council will highlight the Community Safety Partnership is doing to challenge the causes. Refreshments provided.

Youth work grant funding 2020- 2022 engagement sessions

Voluntary sector youth providers are invited to attend a funding workshop to find out more information about new funding and the bidding process: The workshop details are as follows:

The youth work funding will be launched on 1st August 2019 with a deadline for submission on 7th October 2019. Relationships Between Large and Small Organisations

NCVO launch a call for evidence to better understand competition and collaboration between voluntary organisations bidding to deliver public services. This is part of a new project called Rebalancing the Relationship. This project was launched in March 2019 in partnership with ACEVO and Lloyds Bank Foundation to explore how to rebalance the relationship between small and large organisations.

Space to Connect Fund

£1.6 million partnership with the Co-op Foundation to help community organisations identify, improve and protect spaces where people can connect and co-operate. This Fund builds on the Government’s commitment to unlock the potential of community spaces as part of its Loneliness Strategy.
The Fund is now open for applications, with grants of up to £50,000 available.

Anti-knife crime community fund – year 3 (2019-20)

Apply by 24 July 2019 for funding to stop knife crime in your community.
The third year of the government’s anti-knife crime fund set up to support communities across England and Wales who are affected by knife crime.

New community grant to support older people in Camden.

Bluebird Care Camden and Hampstead will be giving away £1,000 to two projects which support activities or services for older people in the Borough.

Small Grants for Social Prescribing

GLA’s Team London have released a small grants programme for groups tackling social isolation. VAC met with Team London officers whilst the grant criteria was being decided and emphasised the need to fund initiatives that were already working well but were coming under pressure from social prescribing referrals. This is one way we can use our social prescribing data we gather to influence decisions.  Full details here.

Young Camden Foundation Change in Action Fund

YCF will award grants of up to £5,000 to support voluntary organisations in Camden deliver activities for young people.
The Community Impacts fund provides a significant opportunity to mobilise the community, voluntary organisations and youth services to improve outcomes for children, young people and their families who are affected by crime. The Change in Action Fund is designed to enable organisations to deliver Youth led Social Action projects
Deadline: 12 noon Thursday 25th July. Decisions: W/C 12th August 2019

Creative Awards Scheme

The SANE Creative Awards Scheme aims to improve the quality of life for people with mental health problems, their carers and families by supporting their artistic aspirations and helping fulfil their creative potential.
Awards range from £75 to £300.

Places to Ride Grants Programme

The programme will fund the development of multi-use facilities to engage with a broad spectrum of cyclists and to encourage people who have never cycled before to get on their bikes. Applications can also be made to improve existing cycling facilities and support opportunities to ride in communities.
Small grants of between £1,000 and £50,000 are available. It is expected that the average grant will be much less than £50,000.  Full details here.

Inclusive Community Fund

The Camden Giving ‘Inclusive Community Fund’ is a partnership with Camden Disability Action, funded by the London Borough of Camden’s Community Impacts programme. The Inclusive Fund exists to increase access to, and participation in, mainstream services, activities and facilities for disabled adults.
Grants from £2.5k to £20k are available. Deadline 15th July. Details here.

Shaping Young Londoners Future

The Mayor is looking for project applications that will provide activities that can make a real difference to young people so they feel positive about their prospects. More details on eligibility, grants here. Closes 12-noon on 12 July.

The HS2 Camden Fund

The Camden Fund aims to strengthen the sense of place and alleviate the disruption of the development of HS2 on local people. Aims:

Safeguarding Courses from VAC in 2019

Safeguarding Advance: Developing knowledge and understanding.

Wednesday 17th  July 9.45am – 2.30pm (Includes lunch)
If you work frequently with children and their families, it is essential that your organisation has up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation and child protection procedures. This Advanced course is designed to develop existing understanding of the safeguarding process through a variety of written text, case studies and interactive exercises.
The training will cover the following:
• DoE updated statutory guidance for England and Wales.
• Myth Busting & Social Care: Exploring safeguarding attitudes
• Awareness of current issues / Understanding emerging forms of abuse.

Maa Shanti empowers single asian mums ( formerly known as AWLPA) and supports single Asian mothers who are fleeing domestic violence and is looking for volunteers to support clients, translate during activities, gather data, provide information, signpost and be champions for us in the community. North London Rape Crisis seeks Volunteers

Helpline volunteers needed to provide support to women and girls age 13+ who have experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their lives. The volunteers will be required to commit to 12 months post training and to attend a 10 week training course on Fridays from 20th September to 22nd November.

Volunteer with VAC and develop experience and skills in public health

VAC provide training, and work opportunities for Camden volunteers who can commit 2 hours per week.
We offer free Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) training to volunteer as a Community Links volunteer, part of a new Care Navigation and Social Prescribing service in Camden. Community Links volunteers signpost residents to community based activities and help with formal referrals where community based activities are needed alongside clinical care.
