Rents Review

Camden council is undertaking a major review of VCS rents and the consultant’s report is now out.  The review is taking a broad view of the issues including affordability, leases, taking into account social value, s.106, meanwhile leases, transition funding etc.  A working group is being formed with decisions going to cabinet in the Autumn. There will be an opportunity for the working group to present to a wider audience at a VCS event later in the year.  David Jaggs, Strategy and Change is the officer leading the project.  If you would like to nominate yourself to the working group, please contact david.jaggs@camden.gov.uk by 31st May stating your area of interest, who you represent and include organisation and ward.

 

 

Camden Community Festivals

The results are out and this year over 48 community festivals received financial support from the Council to the sum of £35,000. The grants were awarded by the Council following submissions from organisers and judging by an independent panel supported by VAC. Full details at Love Camden.

The Great Get Together

The Great Get Together, inspired by Jo Cox, is an opportunity to celebrate kindness, respect and all we have in common.  On 21st – 23rd June communities across the country will be getting together to reject divisive politics and bring communities together.  You can get ideas at the Great Get Together website.  Don’t forget to register your event with Camden council.

Childhood vaccination:  What’s important to you?

Show the Mayor What you Do

The Mayor of London’s Office is working with ConnectSport to show how sport and physical activity are benefiting people across London.  Find out more here.
To take part simply to create a short video on your smartphone about who your organisation is, what you do, where, when and why. You can use existing video. Upload it to YouTube and submit it with a short description at here. It’s the message, not video production, that counts.

Get Involved with a Summer Carnival Arts Project

We are inviting people of all ages to collaborate to make music, costumes, props and gigantic puppets to perform in 4 carnival parades in London
Workshops run every Tuesday 2.30 to 4.30 at Cressfield Sheltering residence for older people at 1 Cressfield street and on Wednesday 2.30 to 4.30, when students from local schools also take part in the workshops.
On the week of half term we will run a drumming workshop at Map Studio Cafe at 46  Grafton Road  2-4pm, then costumes and puppet making on Tuesday 28th at 10.30 to 12.30 and another one on Friday 31st at 2-4. Call Julia on 07960550982 for more information and bookings

Communities Together- Cohesion Fund

Up to £72K will be available to the voluntary and community sector to deliver activities that promote community cohesion. The fund will be open from 10th June to 1st July for small grant applications of £500-£1,500 with a very quick and simple application process.
Decisions will be made by a grant panel of Camden residents.  Full details about the fund will be available soon.

Shaping Young Londoners Future

The Mayor is looking for project applications that will provide activities that can make a real difference to young people so they feel positive about their prospects; are informed by local knowledge, need and demand and shaped by those closest to the community;  have involved young people in the design and delivery.

Richard Reeve’s Foundation

The Richard Reeve’s Foundation offers funding to support eligible schools and charities that run schemes for disadvantaged people and young people aged up to 25.
aims to support disadvantaged people in the local community who experience barriers to education and training and offers:
Raising Literacy and Numeracy Standards for early years and primary school students.And Progression into Work programme.

Supporting NEET young people in London

Grants of up to £10,000 per-annum are available to charities running projects that support disadvantaged young people, to help them move into meaningful work. Awards for three years of funding are open to consideration.

Future Changemakers

The Future Changemakers programme will work with 16-25 year old living in Camden to make decisions on which youth services we fund, putting power into the hands of those who understand the challenges best.

Training Opportunity for Trustees – Governance in the Voluntary and Community Sector

13 June – 18 July.  6 Thursday evenings 17:30-20:30 in Camden
A short evening course for trustees/management committee members or anybody who is interested in developing the knowledge and skills required to be a member of a governing body in the voluntary or community sector. Ideal for new trustees as an induction, for experienced trustees who want a refresher and for those just starting out as trustees. The course is a partnership between Voluntary Action Camden and Mary Ward Centre.

Volunteer with The Felix Project and help end food waste and food poverty in Camden

 The Felix Project collects surplus food from various suppliers and delivers this food free of charge to charities who support vulnerable people in the community. We rely on volunteers to make this operation happen. You could directly reduce food waste and food poverty in Camden by volunteering in the evenings with The Felix Project as either a driver or co-driver.

Ageing Better Camden seeks Men’s Outreach Worker

18 hours per week 3 days per week, to include Friday Sc9 £24,486 to Sc13 £26,298 pro rata Fixed term to December 2020
Ageing Better Camden is looking for a male Outreach Worker to contribute to a new Outreach project with the ABC Outreach Service, to trial innovative approaches to reaching, initiating contact and engaging with older men across Camden.  A key focus of the role will be to build knowledge of and test and learn approaches to creating and bringing isolated older men together through informal male social hubs such as pubs, cafes, and gyms.

Are you a Qualified Teacher with Time to Volunteer?

The English Network is a Camden run project which links qualified volunteer EFL teachers with Camden residents who need to improve their English language skills. Lessons are taught one-to-one within libraries and other Council buildings in Camden for an hour a week.
This post requires a TEFL qualification, preferably a CELTA or Trinity TESOL certificate, but candidates with a TEFL certificate will be considered if they have previous teaching experience.

Volunteer with VAC and develop experience and skills in public health

VAC provide training, and work opportunities for Camden volunteers who can commit 2 hours per week.
We offer free Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) training to volunteer Health Advocates for Community Links, part of a new Care Navigation and Social Prescribing service in Camden. Community Links Health Advocates signpost residents to community based activities and help with formal referrals where community based activities are needed alongside clinical care.

VAC is recruiting volunteers to help us in our new building in Chalk Farm

VAC has recently moved to a new home at Charlie Ratchford Centre, Belmont Street, NW1. We are sharing the building with Camden Carers and Camden Disability Action.  It is a very busy building with lots of visitors and events.
We are recruiting volunteer receptionists to be the first point of contact for visitors. I You will be an important member of the VAC team of volunteers and staff and will have access to training and ongoing support.

The Lounge is a open area for anything that is not confidential and can hold up to 20 people. Smartboard, level access throughout, reasonable prices.
