Room Hire

VAC now has 3 new rooms for hiring out for Events/Training, etc. at our new base in the Charlie Ratchford Centre in Chalk Farm.
The Dining Room can hold up to 60 people, this can be useful for any large social events, AGMs, conferences, etc.
The Buffet Room can hold up to 20 people comfortably for training/workshops
The Lounge is a open area for anything that is not confidential and can hold up to 20 people

Prevent Roundtable Event

This Roundtable presents an opportunity for people to engage with the Camden council on local Prevent delivery. We want to create a safe space for open debate and dialogue and an opportunity to feedback on current strategy.

Idia Women’s Community Leadership Project

We are looking for mothers (aged 40-60) and daughters (aged 18-30) from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic or Refugee (BAMER) backgrounds to join our Idia Women’s Community Leader Project. (You can also be two women who are related or good friends)
Do you have any ideas on how to improve your local community? It could be about fitness, healthy eating, mental health wellbeing, sexual health, managing finances, computer skills, helping people to volunteer, or find work, be creative

Homeless Charity Restart seeks Partner

Restart offers drop-in, employability and mentoring services, is looking for a partner. Restart offers a volunteer pool, mentoring training and management system and a unique employability service which matches clients to a diverse range of host partners to build key personal and professional skills.
The ideal partner would be an organisation who have a new or existing space to offer a drop-in and meals to homeless clients as a way to introduce rehabilitation programmes.

Benefit Mythbuster – factchecking myths and misconceptions about universal credit

Benefit Mythbuster is a new online web tool designed to help address commonly held myths and misconceptions about universal credit.
People can get in touch to add a myth that needs busting. Or help bust a myth!
Benefit Mythbuster is one of a range of web tools from the advice and technology charity Lasa, who also deliver rightsnet

See Breathe at the Camden Fringe

At the Tristan Bates Theatre from the 6th – 11th August.
Breathe is a hard-hitting dark comedy on growing up. The story pans across the struggles of four housemates trying to successfully accomplish their dreams. They represent a generation very much at odds with the world they are forced to inhabit.  Tickets and find more information here

Men’s Activities in Camden

Ageing Better in Camden has identified a need for an increased number of supportive men’s only activities across Camden. We are therefore commissioning 3 men’s only ‘Gold Standard’ Community Activities to enable men to attend supportive and well run activities in their local community.
Funds of £20,000 over 2 years are available to 3 organisations which are able to provide a range of activities specifically for men over 60.
The aim is to help older men reduce their social isolation and loneliness, as well as make connections and build networks.  Deadline is 9am, 14th August

Camden Climate Fund

The Camden Climate Fund provides funding of up to £5,000 towards the installation costs of renewable technologies and/or energy efficiency improvements. Such measures include solar panels, lighting and heating upgrades. Successful applicants are required to match-fund 50% of costs, plus any additional over the maximum allowance.

Building Connections Fund

The £11.5 million Building Connections Fund is a partnership between Government, Big Lottery Fund and the Co-op Foundation which was set up in response to the Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness to support projects that prevent or reduce loneliness.
The fund aims to increase social connections,support organisations to build on their existing work, encourage organisations to join up with others locally and improve the evidence base and use learning to inform longer term policy and funding decisions. Details at the Big Lottery website.

The HS2 Camden Fund

The Camden Fund aims to strengthen the sense of place and alleviate the disruption of the development of HS2 Ltd. on local people by achieving one or more of the following aims:
1. A Happier and Healthier Camden
2. A Better Connected Camden
3. A Stronger Voluntary and Community Sector
We aim to inform applicants of the result of their application within 16 weeks. Applicants can submit applications at any point between midnight on the 15th May 2018 and midnight on the 14th May 2020. Full details at Camden Giving.

Healthy Minds Programme with Mind in Camden

Silver Cycling in beautiful Regent’s Park

Saturdays 11am – 2pm.  is a safe and fun way for people over the age of 11 who have physical or learning disabilities to cycle in Regent’s park.
Monthly Health Walks
Wed 22nd August and Wed 19th September 2018.  Get active and join our free, friendly Health Walk in beautiful Regent’s Park. 80 minutes. No need to book.
Adult Community Choir – the Regent’s Park Singers
The choir is taking a short break for the summer and will re-start on Monday 10th September 2018 at the H-Pod, Cumberland Market NW1 3RH.  No audition, previous experience or music-reading required.

Next meeting of the Camden Intergenerational Network

The next meeting of the Camden Intergenerational Network will be on Friday 14th September. The meeting starts at 1.30pm but you can bring your lunch along at 1.00pm and have a chat with other members. Finish at 4.00pm. Gymsick

Gymsick is a pop-up gym-like space for young people, offering an array of free activities for body and soul that fuse art, sport, music and film. Including: boxing sessions with Action Youth Boxing trainers (AYBI), sessions with boxing and drumming and boxing and poetry, a film program, banner-making, the opportunity to learn to edit films, a Cumbia music event on Sunday 12 August.
An initial meeting will be held on 8 Aug in Chalton Gallery from 10:30 to plan the program of films and install the gym.

Volunteers are needed in GP practices

Voluntary Action Camden (VAC) are training volunteers to become Community Health Advocates in local GP practices.
• Would you like to support people in your community to improve their health and their access to services that will help them to maintain good health and wellbeing?
• Do you want to develop experience and skills in the field of public health?
• Can you commit at least 2 hours per week?
VAC is offering free Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) Level 1 training to those who want to volunteer to become Community Health Advocates.
After completing the training, VAC will support local teams of volunteers to act as links between community based services and GPs. In return for your commitment to the project for 2 hours a week we offer support, out of pocket expenses and other professional development opportunities.

The 3 organisations involved in this consortium are Kentish Town City Farm (KTCF), Queen’s Crescent Community Association (QCCA) and Castlehaven Community Association (CCA)
Gospel Oak and Haverstock area has a very high risk of loneliness in those aged 65 and over, so this role offers an exciting opportunity for the right individual to create real impact for older people.
