Social Presribing Learning Network

Thursday 25th April 2-4pm at Voluntary Action Camden, Charlie Ratchford Resource Centre, Belmont Street, London NW1
Voluntary Action Camden deliver Community Links, part of Camden’s Social Prescribing model, and host the Social Prescribing Learning Network. The Network will share the opportunities and learning arising from referrals in to community based activities and services in Camden. Network events will support a practical design and problem solving approach to benefit members. Looking at needs / demand, referral challenges, and how voluntary and community sector activities and services can be sufficiently resourced in this transforming environment.
The first Network learning event will focus on activities which are in demand: barriers to access these, and opportunities for activity design and development.
The themes are:
• Good neighbours, befriending and home visiting type services.
• Volunteering: high demand for services delivered by volunteers; the role of time banks and similar’ sharing’ initiatives.
We want to hear from as many providers of these activities as possible, and from groups with ideas for development that meets emerging need! RSVP. We have booked a big room but places are still limited.
Contact Donna to sign up to the network event; dturnbull@vac.org.uk

Civil Society Futures

The Commission on the Future of Civil Society has now concluded and a number of reports have been produced.  If you only have time to read one then take a look at this one which proposes that we focus our attention on 4 areas: Power, Connection, Accountability and Trust. There is also an excellent report on Race Equality, and of course there is the full report in the form of a website.  The report also proposes the creation of a People Power Grid of social infrastructure, including a proliferation of people and organisations who connect  people and catalyse community development. For a balanced counter view have a look at this blog from Andrew Purkis.
