GDPR: Latest guidance from ICO

With just 14 days to go to the implementation of GDPR, ICO have issued fresh guidelines on consent.  Importantly they are now saying that organisations won’t need to “automatically repaper or refresh” existing old consents.  You must “check your processes and records in detail to be sure existing consents meet the GDPR standard” buf if they do then it is not necessary to refresh an existing or old consent. ICO are also reminding organisations that there are other lawful basis for holding personal data other than consent.  Consent is relevant for marketing situations but, for example,  if you communicate with members then the lawful basis for holding their data is your contractual relationship with them.
The relevant lawful basis for processing personal data are:
~ consent of data subject
~ necessary for the performance of a contract or to take steps to enter into a contract with data subject e.g. employees
~ necessary for compliance with a legal obligation
~ necessary to protect the vital interests of a data subject or another person
Civil Society have covered the story here.

Camden Community Impacts – Next Steps

Up to £1.6m was allocated to the Community Impacts fund in 2015 as part of the Community Sector Investment Programme and will now be allocated through partner voluntary organisations over the next two years to help address social issues facing Camden residents.

Camden’s Community Impacts Scheme will focus on rough sleeping, supporting emotional health and wellbeing, youth offending and supporting people with social care needs in the community. These projects will directly contribute to the new community vision ‘Camden 2025’, which contains the ambitions that by 2025 everyone should have a place to call home, everyone should feel part of a safe, strong and open community and everyone in Camden is able to live a healthy, active and happy life.
Camden Council has been working with a wide range of partners to develop ideas for the scheme, including the Community Centres Consortium (C4), Age UK Camden, the Roundhouse and New Horizon Youth Centre.  Read the Camden council Press release here.

Faith, identity and security – join the conversation

Sunday 22 April, 11am-6pm, 3FF, Star House, Kentish Town, NW5
Security matters to all of us. We all have a stake in the task of building a more secure society, both within the UK and in the wider world. Escalating violence and insecurity suggest that current approaches are not working. Part of the reason for this is that they do not adequately reflect the needs, concerns and hopes of a broad range of people.
On Sunday 22 April, 3FF will be hosting an event in partnership with Rethinking Security (RS): an organisation which promotes conversations about security in different communities.
We invite you to join with others for a conversation about security: what it means to people of different faiths and beliefs and how it can be improved, both here in the UK and globally. Find out more and apply here.

Silver Cycling is a new initiative to encourage older people to cycle in Regents’ Park.  It is particularly aimed at people 60+ who may be isolated and lonely.
Starting in April, it will be run on Tuesdays 11 – 2 pm in Regent’s Park. Anyone coming alone will be offered a companion cyclist to go with them.  You will be helping to get the bikes ready and cycling with them in the park.
You need to be available on Tuesdays from 10.30 – 2.30 pm and will be required to have a DBS check for this role. Contact Diana Young: 020 7388 7932 x1203 or diana@westeuston.org.
