Voluntary Action Forum: Parcels to Participation – The Future of Food Projects in Camden

The next forum takes place on Wednesday 21st October from 11.00 – 12.30 on zoom.  The main topic will be Food Poverty.  We will be joined by Cllr Anna Wright the new Cabinet Member for Promoting Neighbourhoods and Communities and will be an opportunity to exchange ideas on supporting residents who are in food poverty as a result of the pandemic.  We will hear from a range of food projects in Camden that are planning new approaches to addressing food poverty and looking at issues such as preserving dignity and future sustainability.  Come along to share and learn. London Moves to Tier 2 from Midnight Tonight

Londoners will be banned from mixing with other households indoors. This includes in pubs and restaurants. When outdoors, you must not socialise in a group larger than 6 people. Summary graphic of the rules here.
Exercise classes can continue outdoors, but indoor classes are only permitted if it’s possible to avoid mixing with people outside your household.  Full details.

National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2020

This year is Stop Hate UK’s 25th Anniversary. You can check out the Stop Hate UK site and also visit the National Hate Crime Awareness Week website for more details for ideas on getting involved. Also, be sure to look out for and use the hashtag #NHCAW on Twitter.

Charity Commission Guidance Update

Updated guidance is out.  Measures around postponing and cancelling AGMs and other meetings have been extended to 30 December. It has also been clarified that you can hold trustee or members’ meetings of more than 6 people where these meetings are necessary for providing charitable services. Full details here.

Team Up: Skills for Good – Business skills for good causes

Team UP at Volunteer Centre Camden is offering a free opportunity for organisations to get help from expert and specialist business volunteers. The corporate volunteers will help to solve a problem related to Design, IT, Marketing, Finance, Project Management, HR, Performance Management, Business strategy or supply chain by sharing their skills, knowledge and resources. Google – Digital Boost Mentoring and Webinar

Take advantage of 1:1 mentoring tailored to the needs of charities and small businesses. Those who sign up for this free support will benefit from a wide range of cross-sector expertise — including a great team of Google volunteers.
Google is hosting a webinar on 28th October which is specifically targeted towards charities and getting the best out of our free AdGrants and GSuite tools. Register here.

Nature, Wildlife and Green Spaces Consultation

Camden Council are developing a new plan to help nature in the Borough, and people’s access to it, and are running a public consultation. They would like to know your ideas for helping nature, what you may already be doing to help nature, how access to it can be improved, or even what help you may need in order to do more for nature, wildlife and green spaces. New Nefertiti women’s community empowerment project

For BAMER women aged 18 and over. The project will be online and women will need to be able to use the internet with smartphones or other devices.
The Nefertiti programme aims to empower and motivate the women to gain confidence, reduce feelings of isolation, and set up projects to strengthen their local communities. Women will join one of three project groups:
1) Literacy, digital learning, and training opportunities
2) Parenting skills, nutrition and exercise
3) Employment and self-employment
The women in each group will co-design and deliver workshops with the support of an experienced facilitator.

New Measures to Deliver Social Value through Public Procurement

Businesses seeking to win government work must set out how they will also deliver social value priorities, following new measures launched recently.

Youth Futures Foundation

Youth Futures Foundation’s Development and Impact Grant Funding is still open.  Applications must be submitted by the 9th November for a decision by the 31st December.  Good news is that the Youth Futures Foundation’s level of financial support has changed to:
£30,000 – £150,000 pa for delivery of their development grant for 50-150 young people per year, duration 1-2 years.
£100,000 – £1.2m pa for delivery of their impact grant for 150+ young people per year, duration  1-5 years.  Further information here.

London’s Violence Reduction Unit – MyEnds Programme

MyEnds programme seeks to channel energy and effort into community-led solutions. But to make an impact, strong, local, collaborative work is needed. Violence doesn’t respect borough boundaries, so an equally ambitious response from communities that also pushes boundaries, breaks down barriers, and promotes partnerships is needed. Put simply we are stronger if we work together.
The VRU inviting applications for the MyEnds programme because they want to develop new sustainable, effective, community-led responses to violence.
This form should be used to submit your proposal.  Email your Application Form to vrucommissioning@london.gov.uk.  Deadline 5pm on 23rd October 2020.

Build Up Fund 2020-21│ Youth Crime Prevention & Organisational Development Grants.

Young Camden Foundation in partnership with Camden Council Community Impacts has launched the Build Up Fund. This fund aims to support local youth organisations to access comprehensive and appropriate training in three distinct areas 1) Youth crime prevention, 2) Collaborating or sharing best practice on youth crime prevention schemes and 3) Organisational sustainability.
Camden based organisations working with children and young people can apply for grants of between £500 up to £3,000. See more here

VCSE Health and Wellbeing Fund 2020-21: Starting Well

Grants are available for VCSE organisations in England to run projects that improve outcomes for mothers and babies in deprived areas or from BAME backgrounds from preconception to up to 2-and-a-half years of age.
The aim of the Fund is to promote equality and reduce health inequalities by building the evidence base about good practice, sharing lessons and widening the adoption of interventions with a proven track record. The current funding round focusses on giving people from black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) or poorer backgrounds the best chance at a healthy start in life.

COVID Recovery Fund from Lloyds Bank foundation

Lloyds Bank foundation launched a £7.4 million fund to supporting charities to recover beyond the immediate crisis.
Organisations can apply for a two-year unrestricted grant of £50,000 and will get a Development Partner to help charities navigate a tumultuous future.

Camden Voluntary Action Forum

The forum is open to all Camden voluntary and community  groups and organisations, community activists, social entrepreneurs, volunteers and anyone interested in local voluntary action. The Forum currently meets monthly online on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 11am.

Arts Activities for Young People in Holborn

Media Arts Club @ October Gallery for 13-18 year olds
Holborn Community Association are running a 7 week Media Arts Club program with October Gallery open to 13-18 year olds – young people will experiment with digital art techniques to produce artwork inspired by current exhibition, Fire Figures by Alexis Peskine. Free bespoke digital skills training to over 19s. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to change their career or just become more confident using digital tools and programs. You needn’t be planning to get a career in the tech industry, you just need to be open to learning something new.

Healthwatch Camden Hosts Online Q+A Meeting with local General Practice Staff

Wednesday 4th November 2020, 5.30pm – 6.30pm.
This event has been organised for members of the public to engage directly with Camden’s GPs and a representative of Camden Practice Managers Forum.
It will be an opportunity to share your experiences of access and care as well as shielding support and how this can be improved.
This will be a chance to ask questions about how GP services are coping with the Covid-19 lockdown, patients experience when accessing services and how we can all keep safe.  Full details here.

Domestic violence and abuse online workshop

Introduction to domestic violence and abuse e-learning
This e-learning is intended for everyone that would like to gain an awareness on domestic violence and abuse. It will provide you with an introduction to what the types and signs of abuse are, how to respond and what actions to take.

Responding to domestic violence and abuse online workshop

Camden Safety Net two-hour online workshops on responding to domestic violence and abuse for staff that come into regular contact with residents.
25th November or 15th December
This online workshop will help you become more aware of the indicators of domestic abuse and violence and more confident in what to do in these instances. The workshop will explore the dynamics of a domestic abuse situation and what the barriers are for a victim/survivor seeking help.

Interculturality within the Supervisory Relationship

Sun 15th Nov. Nafsiyat has developed a new one-day workshop for supervisors and supervisees, to explore interculturality within the supervisory relationship.
There have been many books, workshops and training program on psychotherapy and counselling across cultural and ‘racial’ borders since the publication of ‘intercultural therapy’ in the early 1990’s. However, its integration and application to the supervisory relationship is still at an early stage. Find out more and book here.

You will lead all phases of projects from creating proposals, refining objectives, fieldwork, analysis, and presentation of findings. You will also lead on recruiting and supporting volunteers to help us with reaching and engaging local people. Learn more.

The Sherriff Centre seeks Volunteer Coordinator Intern

How to Volunteer and How to Recruit Volunteers in Camden

Volunteer in Camden at Time to Spare.
Volunteer for the NHS at GoodSAM.
Join a neighbourhood Mutual Aid group.
Organisations that are signed up to Time to Spare can now request volunteers through a brokerage team making it much easier to access the volunteers. The brokers can help match volunteers with voluntary and community organisations who have a need for verified/ vetted volunteers. The service will also help to verify or carry out new DBS check with volunteers.You can use the Brokerage service to request volunteers with specific skills or background for community activity.

Re-opening Community Buildings Resources

View the video, presentation and resources from the follow up workshop with Locality on Wednesday on the VAC website including useful clarification around the new rules for the NHS QR codes that now have to be displayed by certain venues. Community centres are currently not included in the list of venues that must use the NHS QR code but can choose to or use another system (see Time to Spare item below). QR track and trace

Time to Spare’s free (for charities and community groups) track and trace system helps you collect details of visitors in a safe and secure way. Once you’ve signed up, you can print out QR codes for your location, as well as specific QR codes for different activities you run. Visitors sign in by scanning the QR codes, but if they don’t have a smartphone, your staff can add their information directly. If you have regular members, you can also print out membership cards/stickers for everyone.  Sign up here: Use live chat on the website for queries.

There’s lots going on in the borough to celebrate Black History month.  Find local listings on Love Camden and the Kentishtowner, or search twitter using #blackhistory or #blackhistorymonth or #blackhistorymonth2020.
