New training opportunities
We’ve locked in some new and diverse training opportunities across a range of topics, with more coming in the next couple of weeks. Have a look at the news and events section of our website, which has details on training sessions in May and June on topics like safeguarding, dementia awareness and choosing the right structure for your voluntary sector organisation or community group.

Upcoming Training

More details in the Events and Training section

Online safety act likely to affect numerous charities
New online safety laws have been introduced to help keep people in the UK safe from harmful and illegal content online. Charities that provide online content, such as a website or an app, and particularly those that provide services for children, may be affected by these changes. You can use a tool on Ofcom’s website to find out if you are affected by the rule changes and what to do if you are.

Report finds volunteering boosts economy and wellbeing
A new report from Pro Bono Economics gives information on how investing in volunteering can benefit businesses. Volunteering opportunities increase staff morale and productivity, the report found, with one statistic showing that, on average, employees who participate in a workplace volunteering scheme spend 0.9 days less per year absent from one work.

Lack of diverse socioeconomic representation in sector
Social Mobility in the Charity Sector, a report released by EY Foundation, says that people from low socioeconomic backgrounds are underrepresented in paid charity roles. The report compared the charity sector with the public and private sectors, and suggests that lack of resources, visibility and the development of value-driven branding in business deter young people and those from poorer backgrounds from applying to charity roles.
