NHS England Prescriptions Consultation

NHS England have published a new consultation proposing further national guidance for CCGs on medicines which should not routinely be prescribed in primary care. The consultation, running to 28 February 2019, is:
• Items which should not routinely be prescribed in primary care: an update and a consultation on further guidance for CCGs
The items considered for inclusion were:
• medicines that do not work very well or are not very safe for patients to take;
• more expensive when compared to other medicines that work as well;
• medicines that the NHS should not spend money on because they do not treat serious illnesses.
A lot of the advice in the consultation is already current practice in Camden and therefore the impact upon Camden patients is not expected to be significant.

Camden draft Clean Air Action Plan out for consultation.

The draft Plan sets out our vision to reduce pollution in Camden. It has been developed with the help of our Camden Clean Air Partnership made up of Camden residents, schools, community groups and businesses; as well as the wider Camden community.
The Draft Plan focuses on seven key areas including; Reducing emissions from buildings; Cutting construction emissions; Reducing transport emissions; Supporting communities and schools
To view the consultation document and provide comments, please visit: https://consultations.wearecamden.org/supporting-communities/clean-air-action-plan/
The consultation will run until the 15th of February.

Camden asks for views on measures to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping

Changes to the welfare benefit system, a shortage of affordable housing and increased private rents are all having an impact nationally, contributing to a homelessness crisis, which in the worst incidences can result in rough sleeping.
You can read the draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy online now. The online consultation is now open and will close on Monday 18 February 2019. Or to make more detailed comments or queries please email: HomelessConsultation@camden.gov.uk

In Memoriam

Sadly we mark the passing of two giants of the Camden voluntary sector over the holiday period.  Efua Taylor died on 15th December and Gillian Hall died on 7th January.  Both were hugely influencial in the voluntary sector over the last half century and will be greatly missed.  Gillian was a mainstay of Women and Health, St Pancras Community Association, but above all in disability organisations.  She was the chair of DiSC and subsequently helped set up it’s successor Camden Disability Action.  Efua was a trustee and chair of Voluntary Action Camden and a guiding light at African Caribbean Elders and a member of the PCT. Both will be remembered with affection by all who knew them.

Changes to  Hampstead Wells and Campden Trust Grant Making Policies

The Trustees of The Hampstead Wells and Campden Trust have recently undertaken a review of its grant making policies and procedures.
For the next few years we will be awarding grants to reinforce the alleviation of poverty generally in the Trust’s Area of Benefit (AOB), with a particular interest in receiving applications which assist people with debt problems and/or for homeless people and encouraging applications for work in Kilburn, West Hampstead and Haverstock since there is evidence that deprivation, particularly for older people in those wards is greater than elsewhere.
Our application process will remain the same but we have a new application form which you can access via our website – www.hwct.org.uk
You can read the full text of the letter here. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact 020 7435 1570 or by email at sheila@hwct.co.uk
